Kurrnt ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information when you use the Kurrnt News app.
Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly to us and information generated through your use of the app:
- Account information — your name and email address when you create an account, or your Google profile information if you sign in with Google.
- Preferences — your selected news topics, appearance settings (light/dark mode), voice preference for audio playback, and notification settings.
- Usage data — articles you view, bookmark, or share; interactions with the app such as feed swipes and audio playback. This data is used only to improve personalization.
- Device information — device type, operating system version, and a Firebase installation ID for push notifications.
How we use your information
- To provide and personalize your news feed based on your selected topics.
- To send push notifications about breaking news, if you opt in.
- To save and sync your bookmarks across sessions.
- To improve the app through aggregate, anonymized analytics.
- To authenticate your account securely.
Information we do not collect
- We do not collect your precise location.
- We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
- We do not serve targeted advertising based on your personal data.
- We do not share your information with advertisers.
Third-party services
Kurrnt uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:

- MongoDB Atlas — cloud database hosting for your account data and preferences.
- Event Registry — source of news articles. No personal data is shared with Event Registry.
Data retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal information is removed from our systems within 30 days. Anonymized usage analytics may be retained for longer.
Guest mode
You can browse Kurrnt as a guest without creating an account. In guest mode, we do not collect any personally identifiable information, and no topic preferences or personal settings are stored.
Children's privacy
Kurrnt is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing us (see Contact us below).
- Withdraw consent for push notifications at any time through your device settings.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
